BARTON WANTS MONEY

QPR midfielder Joey Barton is thought to be demanding £ 3 million in order to terminate his contract with the Championship club. Barton was one of the big names to arrive at Loftus Road following the arrival of Tony Fernandes as the new owner.

He was signed a contract worth £ 70,000 per week, which would be unsustainable if the club was to get relegated into the championship. Even before that happened, Barton’s QPR career was over after a series of off and on pitch incidents. He spent the last season at Marseille on a season-long loan deal.

However, he was expected to be back into the QPR training regime yesterday since he still had two years left on his contract. Manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that the information was sent to the midfielder, but he has not turned up for training. Barton is believed to have held talks with the QPR board about leaving the club on a permanent basis. His relationship with the board is thought to be beyond repair. It would cost QPR in the region of £ 7 million to keep him for the remainder of his contract, but Barton is thought to be ready on a £ 3 million payoff to leave the club permanently.

“Joey Barton was sent the same information as every other player. That was to report for training on Monday. We haven’t seen him. I don’t follow Twitter so I don’t know what’s going on. He wants to go to Marseille and he did very well there last year, but he’s got two years left of his deal here. I think he’s looking for the club to give him a payday here and then he’ll go. I don’t know how it’s all going to end,” said Redknapp about the absence of Barton from training.
