Sabella Believes Argentina Should Have Won

The manager of the Argentina national football team, Alejandro Sabella, has said that his team was the deserving winner in the pre quarter final clash against Switzerland the other day.

Argentina was actually expected to run through the Switzerland side during that game, but, that didn’t happen.

The Swiss boys went out there with fantastic planning and they executed their plans in the best possible way to keep the dangerous attacking line of Argentina quiet for 90 minutes.

The game then went into the extra time and Switzerland’s intensity remained up in that duration as well, but, just a couple of minutes before the final whistle, Angel Di Maria, with a golden goal, managed to ensure Argentina’s win.

Sabella didn’t look concerned with the fact that his team was made to work hard for this win. He, in fact, praised the efforts of his boys while addressing the press after the match.

The Argentina boss said, “Both the teams gave their 100% out there. During the first 45 minutes, the match was pretty even. They could have scored a couple of goals, in that duration, but, we had some opportunities too. After the half time break, we upped the ante a little bit and created as many as five chances. So, I would say we were the deserving winners. We were there and thereabouts right through the game.”

Switzerland didn’t let Argentina’s trump card Messi play freely. They kept him in check, but, at the end, the Barcelona superstar was somehow able to influence the game. It was him who set up that golden goal for Di Maria.

Argentina will be up against Belgium in the Round of 8. That match will be played at Estadio Nacional on 5th of July.
