Fleetwood Town beat Sunderland in the group stage of the Football League Trophy to start the latest sequence of three successive wins. They came from a goal down to beat the Black Cats. The visitors took the lead in the first half through wing back CallumMcFadzean. His 15th minute goal separated the two teams at the half-time interval.
Joey Barton and his players were able to overturn that first half deficit to win the game 2-1 with two goals at the start of the second half. Two goals in eight minutes from Barrie Mckay and Mark Duffy won the game for Joey Barton. McKay equalized for Fleetwood Town on 51 minutes before Duffy scored the winning goal just before the hour mark.
After the game against Sunderland, Fleetwood Town thrashed Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle in their respective league clashes netting nine goals in the process. Bristol Rovers were beaten 4-1 at home to Fleetwood Town in the penultimate league game for the visitors, while 10-man Plymouth Argyle were thumped 5-1 by hosts Fleetwood in the last set of games in League One.
Fleetwood Town and Sunderland are in 7th and 8th position respectively on the league table ahead of their game later this week.
